Strep throat is a throat infection caused by a bacteria called group A Streptococcus bacteria. The bacteria live in the nose and throat. Strep throat is contagious and spreads easily from person to person through airborne droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks.
Symptoms may include:
- Swollen lymph nodes on your neck
- Pain with swallowing
- Red and swollen tonsils, sometimes with white patches
- Tiny red spots on the roof of the mouth
- Vomiting or nausea
